The X2 program is a continuation for people who have completed the previous workout regimen, but it can also serve as an entry point to the P90X system. Instead, fitness trainer Shaun T takes you through a workout that claims to condense 45 minutes of exercise into just 15 minutes. This workout features more plyometric (jumping) style moves than those featured in the P90X routines. We tested a variety of abdominal workouts, each running about 15 minutes in duration, to gauge their effectiveness at isolating and activating abdominal muscle groups. The workouts we chose to evaluate were P90X Ab Ripper X; P90X Ab Ripper X2; P90X Ab Ripper X3; and Insanity Fast and Furious Abs. The first three videos feature athletic trainer Tony Horton, and Insanity Fast and Furious Abs feature Shaun T as the fitness trainer and host. Both hosts are engaging, and the instructions they deliver are clear and easy to follow.The production quality of these videos got steadily better as we progressed through them, with the most recent release being the best overall in terms of sound, picture, and stage design. However, we felt that the original P90X Ab Ripper X offered the workout that was most effective in isolating, activating, and working our core abdominal muscle groups. We felt that the P90X Ab Ripper X3 featured some welcome variations including plank exercises. Also, we enjoyed the standing, plyometric Insanity workout, but we didn’t find that workout to be as effective in activating core abdominal muscle groups.Of the workout videos we tested, the P90X Ab Ripper X was the most efficient and effective at direct isolation of specific abdominal groups.
