Speakers:
- Holly Ramsey-Klawsnik, Ph.D.
- Pamela B. Teaster, Ph.D., Professor and Director, Graduate Center for Gerontology, University of Kentucky
Topic:
Holly Ramsey-Klawsnik, Ph.D., and Pamela B. Teaster, Ph.D. will present selected findings from “The Study of Sexual Abuse of Vulnerable Adults in Care Facilities.” This study was funded by the National Institute on Aging and analyzed detailed data regarding 429 reported sexual abuse cases that were investigated by Adult Protective Services and/or licensing authorities in five states across the nation. Findings will be discussed regarding the victims, perpetrators, abuses, APS investigations, case findings, and case outcomes. Discussion will focus on using these research findings to improve APS response to allegations of sexual abuse in care facilities. For background information, you may wish to review the following articles authored by the webinar presenters and colleagues: "Sexual Abuse of Vulnerable Adults in Care Facilities: Clinical Findings and a Research Initiative," Journal of American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Vol. 12(6). "Sexual Predators Who Target Elders: Findings from the First National Study of Sexual Abuse in Care Facilities," Journal of Elder Abuse & Neglect, Vol. 20(4) 2008.
